Andrew Luck announces retirement from NFL at age 29

Andrew Luck's retirement speech was a thorough explanation of why the Indianapolis Colts retirement was the right decision for him. No wonder owner Jim Irsay said he hopes Luck will reconsider and return to the Colts for 2020 and beyond.

Team officials did not immediately confirm the report.

He led the Colts to the playoffs four seasons, compiling a 4-4 record in that span. A shoulder injury cost him the entire 2017 season. He leaves after being the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2018 after throwing 35 touchdown passes.

"I feel quite exhausted, and quite tired", Luck said Saturday night at his impromptu retirement press conference.

It's far from an ideal situation two weeks before the start of the regular season, but Ballard and the rest of the Colts organization are about to see if Brissett, 26, is truly a top-20 quarterback in the National Football League, as head coach Frank Reich said he believes.

"This is not an easy decision", Luck said on Saturday night. It's the hardest decision of my life.

He led the Colts to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons and to the AFC championship game after the 2014 season - without missing a start. "The reality is for most players, it's not very long", Wilson said.

It's likely the best chance Brissett will have to make himself an National Football League franchise quarterback.

He finally recovered past year, and returned to form after one month of play, eventually leading the Colts to the AFC playoffs as a wild card by winning nine of their last 10 games.

"Teams win, don't write the end of the story yet", Colts general manager Chris Ballard said. We have some good skill players.

Luck finishes his career with 2,000 completions, 3,290 attempts, 23,671 yards, 171 touchdowns and 83 interceptions. With Irsay's statement, we can be sure that the team is also doing everything they can to convince their man to stay and play more football.

"I'll be honest. It hurt", he said.
