Instagram and WhatsApp are getting a name change

Notably, the founders of Instagram and WhatsApp have all departed the larger Facebook family over the course of the past few years. Putting Facebook's name on its two most popular apps certainly won't make those apps any more popular than they are already and could possibly cause users to be more wary about the security and privacy of those apps. In order to improve both the apps, the company has taken many steps over the past year. Indeed, it's also reorganizing its internal reporting lines, as the Instagram Direct team will join the Messenger one, further hinting at a more common approach to messaging across Facebook's services. To add its name to Instagram and Whatsapp has been shocking as well as confusing that reflects the self-sufficiency that the units have operated under the Social media platform's regulations. The business will carry on in the same manner but the apps will just be rebranded on the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store.
The change, first reported in The Information, is a big move by Facebook, who until now let the apps operate and be branded independently. On your device's home screen, the name for each will mercifully remain the same (for now). And now both the apps have more than 1 billion users (together) across the world.
"We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook", a Facebook spokesperson told the publication. This Facebook branding is already made this exact change with Oculus.

Although, the difference here is that it created to be used offline, which also takes up only 10MB of your phone space. As for editing, the app carries the same "Auto" enhancing as seen in the Google Photos app .
The distance from the Facebook name has also spared the subsidiaries some collateral association with Facebook's privacy scandals, the report notes.
The changes come at a time when antitrust regulators are examining Facebook's acquisitions of both apps in an effort to find out whether the company acquired the platforms in an effort to neutralize rivals.
