Kovac apologises to Guardiola over Sane pursuit

The Premier League transfer window closes next Thursday and it is understood that the champions would not try to replace Sane if he's sold before then.

The transfer saga appeared to take another twist on Friday (AEST) as German outlets Kicker and Bild reported Sane had made a decision to join Bayern in a move worth in excess of €100 million (A$163 million).

Lucien Favre's side tailed off in last season's title challenge, finishing runners-up to Bayern who clinched a record 29th league trophy and the DFB Pokal.

"I said many times I want players that want to stay".

Bayern Munich will have to pay a fee of £137m to land Manchester City star Leroy Sane.

"We want him to stay", said Guardiola, speaking after City's pre-season friendly against Kitchee in Hong Kong.

Guardiola also reserved praise for his opposite number Jurgen Klopp, having faced him many times in the Bundesliga, too, when he was at Bayern and Klopp was at Borussia Dortmund. "I know the rumours exist", Guardiola told reporters ahead of Sunday's Community Shield match against Liverpool FC.

"Senior sources" in Manchester have claimed that, despite long-running speculation, the club are yet to receive any formal bids from Bayern, nor been given any evidence that the 23-year-old actually wants to leave the club.

'Of course it bothers me because it is not true, ' Guardiola said. I think he has incredible gap to develop, incredible in terms of being connected in the game, ' Guardiola said.
