Deadly ambush shows Mexico lost control of area

At least five U.S. citizens, a mother and four children, were killed in northern Mexico on Monday, in an attack carried out by unknown gunmen.

Trump, who campaigned on a promise to reduce USA foreign military commitments, didn't specify what kind of help he was contemplating.

The state prosecutor's office in Sonora state, in northern Mexico, said earlier that the suspect's link to the grisly crime was "being analysed". Not one of the seventeen Democrats still in the race issued a statement on Monday's attacks.

"Women and children (between 14 years old and 10 months) were massacred, burnt alive".

Trump offered on Twitter on Tuesday morning to help Mexico "wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth".

There was no immediate indication of who was responsible for the attack, however, in her Facebook post Langford pointed to violence that had erupted between Mexican cartels in Sonora in recent weeks. "We share all information within our family groups".

According to USA Today, the victims were members of La Mora, a well-established Mormon settlement in Sonora and an offshoot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Members of the extended LeBaron family were caught in a brutal attack, Mexican officials say.

Relatives of the family initially told multiple news outlets that they believe the attack was a case of mistaken identity by drug cartel gunmen.

In a press conference yesterday, Mr Lopez Obrador said: "I haven't seen the message from president Trump, but I am sure that it comes from a desire to help, to co-operate, that it has not been disrespectful nor interfering".

U.S. President Donald Trump quickly began applying more pressure on Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to crack down on armed drug groups.

"When the brother-in-law went to pick up the broken down vehicle, he was changing the tire, he saw smoke coming just from right over the hill".

"This community has existed for many many decades; it is a peaceful community of farmers and family, unassociated with the current violence", she continued.
