Mr Trump said he cherished NY.
Mr. Trump explained the reason for his move to Florida in a tweet on Thursday, writing while he will always "cherish NY", he's been "treated very badly" by its political leaders, and Palm Beach, Florida, will become his family's permanent residence.
After the Times reported the change, Trump confirmed that he will be making Palm Beach, where he owns the Mar-a-Lago resort, his "Permanent Residence" after leaving the White House.
He added that NY "will always have a special place in my heart!"
He lists "other places of abode as" 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Trump has never released his state or federal taxes, so it's not possible to verify his claim of paying "millions of dollars" in taxes.
"I hated having to make this decision, but in the end it will be best for all concerned", Trump tweeted.

He added that an agreement could decrease the number of US troops in the country without affecting counter-terrorism operations. He has complained that the US has been serving as policemen in Afghanistan, and says that's not the American navy's job.
"New York's Finest must be cherished, respected and loved".
They both welcomed the news that the president was Florida-bound.
He concluded, "It will always have a special place in my heart!" Few have been treated worse " he tweeted Thursday evening.
An apartment in Trump Tower, Manhattan, has been Mr Trump's primary residence since 1983.
Trump isfacing scrutiny from both the New York State attorney general and Manhattan district attorney over his tax returns.
Moore said the states benefitting the most from this population movement are Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and North Carolina.
"On top of ridiculously high taxes, my children and companies are spending a fortune on lawyers" to defend themselves against state investigations, Trump tweeted in July.
In any event, Trump could see large tax savings from a residency switch to Florida. Just because he's moving to the Sunshine State doesn't mean that Trump will no longer have to file tax returns in NY. But in changing his residence to Florida, he would most likely be avoiding New York state's top tax rate of almost 9% and New York City's top rate of almost 4%.
