Female star Sherrock's world darts run ends

England's Sherrock rocked the championships by beating Ted Evetts in the opening round to become the first woman to win a match at the sport's showpiece event.

Here, the PA news agency takes a look at Sherrock's career. She had to battle a kidney disease six months after giving birth, while darts runs in her family as her twin sister also plays.

World Youth Champion Humphries reached the quarter-finals for a second successive year after a dominant display saw him complete a 4-1 victory against Kim Huybrechts. Lisa Ashton and Anastasia Dobromyslova both made their debuts in 2018, losing in the first round, but failed to qualify this time.

And she admitted after Friday's match she had not envisaged her run to the last 32.

Sherrock was cheered throughout by the crowd at a raucous Alexandra Palace, with supporters singing "There's only one Fallon Sherrock". Her number of followers on Twitter surged and she spoke of her shock at receiving a verified blue tick on her account.

"The last week or so has been incredible for me and the reaction I've received from around the world has been insane".

Sherrock faces Corrine Hammond in the first round of the BDO Women's World Championship in the afternoon session on Saturday, January 4 at O2 in London.

To do so, he will have to go through the exhausting Q School tournament in January, in which hundreds of players compete to win a PDC Tour Card: previous year 397 players competed for only 19 cards.
