24 states will raise minimum wage in 2020

In practice, many employers in these industries find it hard to keep track of employee tips properly, as they are not a steady and reliable source of income that can be depended upon by workers to meet their living expenses.
Nationwide, almost 7 million workers in 22 states will see their pay increase because of changes in the state or local minimum wage, the Economic Policy Institute reported.
Opponents of raising the minimum wage say the result could be fewer jobs.
Workers in California and 25 other USA states will see an increase in minimum wage starting in 2020. In Flagstaff, the minimum wage will increase to $13 an hour. It will rise by $1 every year until 2024 when the minimum wage reaches $15 per hour in the Garden State. Investigators visited 84 carwashes throughout the state and uncovered $6.5 million in underpayments to 1,380 workers.

On June 30, 2020, the difference between the minimum wage and current tip wages will be cut in half.
The elimination of the tip wage for miscellaneous industries will be phased in over a one-year period. Tipped employees must be paid $5.54 per hour, also up 10 cents from the 2019 rate.
