Captain Marvel 2 is going higher, further, faster, baby - but with a brand new writer and director.
The directing tandem of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed the origin story of the first film (which co-starred Samuel L. Jackson) working off of a screenplay they wrote with Geneva Robertson-Dworet. THR also notes Disney has its hopes set on a possible 2022 release, and that Marvel is looking for a female filmmaker for the sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has hired their WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell to write the present-day set Captain Marvel 2 and Marvel is now searching for a director as Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck might be doing a Disney+ series.
And on Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that a sequel is in development at Disney-owned Marvel Studios.

The 80-year-old leader wept openly over the Soleimani funeral and vowed "hard retribution" against the United States. The soldiers injured during the Iranian attack were reported to have been hospitalized in Kuwait and Germany.
There's also the fact that her standalone film made more than a billion dollars at the box office, so that helps.
'Captain Marvel' made over $1 billion at the box office past year (it was one six Disney movies to do so in 2019, actually). The movie now has a writer, Megan McDonnell, who worked on the first season of upcoming Disney Plus show WandaVision.
He said: "We didn't even mention that we're making "Black Panther 2" and we didn't mention that "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" is coming". While Captain Marvel was a fun film, it, in my opinion at least, is probably one of the least inspiring Marvel films in recent memory.
With Phase 4 and its 10 projects set to run through 2021, it's safe to assume that the rest of these films will begin rolling out sometime in 2022.
