David Moyes returns to West Ham United

Ex-Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes had saved the Hammers throughout the Premier League on a short-term deal, having taken over a side throughout the relegation zone in the middle of the 2017-18 season beneath Slaven Bilic.

Allen has been on the books of Stoke since 2016 when he joined from Liverpool.

West Ham have spent just under £175million in the 19 months since he departed the club.

Each of West Ham's last four home Premier League matches have ended in defeat, their worst run since January 2006 (also four defeats in a row).

"I'm feeling very proud that I'm back here at West Ham".

Moyes believes the squad he has inherited is better than last time around, but he has again taken on a host of players who are under- performing and not necessarily cut out for a relegation battle.

Moyes admits his first task will be moving the club away from danger, the Hammers now just one point and one place above the Premier League's drop zone following their defeat to Leicester on Saturday. "I always felt that if he was given the chance with a big club, he'd go for it".

Brendan Rodgers' side now sit second though could be overtaken if Manchester City avoid defeat against Wolves on Friday (7.45pm). The Leicester goalkeeper did well soon after the first Liverpool goal when he got a hand to a Sadio Mane hit from close range.

"Stuart Pearce has other responsibilities in other positions, but he is certainly under consideration, so it may take several days to figure it out", Moyes said at his first press conference. "I enjoyed being around the stadium and I loved being in this part of the world and I missed the Club, so I can't wait to get started", Moyes said. I've worked with UEFA and I've tried to watch every Champions League game.

Moyes told the club website: "It's fabulous to be back".

Moyes words may have some truth to them, with the monetary value of the squad he has inherited increased exponentially in their time apart.

Moyes' first game will be on Wednesday at home to fellow strugglers Bournemouth, and his appointment has had a lukewarm response from fans on social media.

"We have to get results. We didn't talk about the past, we were just talking about the team now, what we have to do and the position we're in".

"What I would say is it showed quite a lot of class from the owners".

Moyes said: "I think that how well Sheffield United are doing with what probably, with respect, looked like the team which has come up from the Championship, has proved that there might be many players who can step up".
