Early arrival of flu strikes thousands across New York State

The state is reporting the first child death from the flu in Wisconsin this season.
"And on an individual level you really can't tell if you've got Influenza A or Influenza B - they can both make you miserable and both can make you quite sick".
"This season is especially hard on young people and children". Nationally, 136 children's deaths were flu-related previous year, officials say.
Private health care providers, meanwhile, were encouraged to procure the influenza vaccine through private distributors in order to provide for the general population.Vaccination for influenza is recommended annually (before the start of the flu season).
"In Canada we've had several back-to-back seasons of moderate to severe epidemics for the past few years", she said.

On Monday afternoon, social media and journalists starting spreading a letter purporting to announce a US withdrawal from Iraq. The military chiefs' comments came after the letter - unsigned but bearing the typed name of US Marine Corps Brig.
The flu is so widespread statewide that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo directed the state Health Department to begin enhanced monitoring of hospitals through an emergency data system to ensure hospitals have the capacity and resources needed to fight the surge in serious cases requiring hospitalization.
And recently, Gallatin County has seen more cases of the flu than any other county in the state.
"We're certainly seeing plenty of disease associated with it", he said. "We really don't know what's going to happen, but we know that the activity is already high, so we at least are going to have a high activity flu season". She also advises that people cough into their sleeves, properly dispose of tissues, and practise proper hand-washing to prevent the spread of illnesses.
Seniors, pregnant women and children under age 2 are considered at high risk for the flu, according to health experts.
