France evacuates citizens from Wuhan as coronavirus death toll reaches over 130

In a statement Tuesday morning, Department of Defense press secretary Alyssa Farah said: "March Air Reserve Base and the Department of Defense stand ready to provide housing support to [the Department of Health and Human Services] as they work to handle the arrival of almost 200 people, including Department of State employees, dependents and U.S. citizens evacuated from Wuhan, China".

The committee will not only determine whether the virus is now an emergency, but will also make recommendations on how it should be handled.

The disease has spread to more than 15 countries since it emerged out of Wuhan late past year, with the death toll soaring to 132 and confirmed infections nearing 6,000.

A plane evacuating more than 200 Americans from a Chinese city at the center of a virus outbreak continued Wednesday on to Southern California after everyone aboard passed a health screening test in Anchorage, where the aircraft had stopped to refuel.

The disease has spread to 18 countries, sickening at least 60 patients, most of whom had traveled to China. "There will be certain quarantine conditions when they land in Turkey".

A US government official who declined to be identified told Reuters a USA charter plane had left Wuhan. Coronaviruses typically spread to people from an animal source. Health Secretary Alex Azar said that the option is on the table but a final decision hasn't been made yet.

Like other respiratory infections, it is spread by droplets from coughs and sneezes, with an incubation time between one and 14 days.

The news comes as British Airways said it was stopping all flights to China.

While no confirmed case has been recorded in India, its immediate neighbours - Nepal and Sri Lanka- have reported one case each.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed the first cases in the Middle East of the new deadly coronavirus, saying that doctors were treating a family that had recently come from a city at the centre of the outbreak. Airports around the world are screening passengers from China.

The number of people infected by the Wuhan coronavirus in Mainland China has now surpassed that of the SARS outbreak in the early 2000s.

There are now no cases of the new coronavirus in Quebec.

The WHO has reported a suspected case of person-to-person transmission in Vietnam, and Japan has reported another. "WHO will keep working side-by-side with China and all other countries to protect health and keep people safe".

"What we know about this virus is that it actually dies very quickly on surfaces", Zink said.
