Oscar Nominations 2020: Surprises, Snubs, and 'Joker' Leads the Pack

A record 62 women, representing almost a third of nominees, were nominated for Academy Awards this year, but none for best director.

Had the women been nominated for the category, they would have joined the sole five female nominees in the Oscars' 92-year history.

Other heavy-hitters include Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit with six nominations including Best Picture; and Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story with six, including acting nominations for supporting actress Laura Dern and lead performers Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.

The nominees for best supporting actor are: Tom Hanks, "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"; Anthony Hopkins, "The Two Popes,"; Brad Pitt, "Once Upon a Time.in Hollywood"; Joe Pesci, "The Irishman"; Al Pacino, "The Irishman".

"Parasite", from South Korea, is the sixth film to be nominated for best global film - before this year known as best foreign language film - and for best picture in the same year.

The nominees for best animated feature film: "How to Train a Dragon: The Hidden World"; "Toy Story 4"; "I Lost My Body"; "Klaus"; "Missing Link". The then 33-year-old made her solo directorial debut with the coming-of-age film, starring Saoirse Ronan, and she was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

This year's ceremony, like last year's, will not have an overall host.

Florence Pugh, nominated for best supporting actress in "Little Women", Instagrammed a before and after photo of herself in bed. That's an honour that can now be claimed by Rocketman (original song), Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (makeup and hairstyling), The Lighthouse (cinematography), Ad Astra (sound mixing) and, for Best Visual Effects, The Lion King, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars, which was also nominated for its score.
