Rod Stewart charged with simple battery after alleged assault at children's party

Police say the younger Stewart shoved Dixon backward after Dixon put his right hand on Sean's chest and told him he needed to back up and give him some space.

The affidavit claimed that Sir Rod, 74, and his group "began to get loud and cause a scene, and refused to follow (Mr Dixon's) instructions to leave".

British popstar Rod Stewart has been charged after allegedly punching a hotel security guard outside a children's party in Florida, according to a police report obtained by U.S. media.

Dixon alleges Rod, his son and their group, including children, tried to enter a private event at a children's area at the resort.

CNN has reached out to the rock star's reps for comment.

Rod apparently told police called to the scene that "he and his family approached the check-in table and attempted to have the children in their group gain access".

Allegedly, Rod then "stepped toward [the victim] and threw a punch, striking in [his or her] left rib cage area".

Stewart, who turns 75 on Friday, and his 39-year-old son Sean Roderick Stewart, were each charged with simple battery by the Palm Beach County Police Department.
