Lena Waithe voicing first openly gay Disney character

Lena Waithe has been tapped by Disney to voice the studio's first brazenly LGBTQ+ character.

The film also stars Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Octavia Spencer and Tracey Ullman.

Onward producer Kori Rae confirmed the role in an interview published Friday, telling Yahoo Entertainment that the inclusion of the character "just kind of happened" when the movie was being written.

Disney and Pixar's Onward hits theaters March 8. Check out the trailer below.

In Star Wars: Rise of The Skywalker, we saw the first-ever same-sex kiss in the history of Star Wars. Though there's still a helluva long way to go, we should celebrate these tiny victories. The character is only in one scene, but it gently opens up the door to the subject.

Waithe's character is major enough to grace a character poster (alongside two other characters) but her line doesn't seem substantial enough to make an impact on the rest of the movie at all.

USA evacuates coronavirus cruise ship passengers
There also was concern about being on a long flight with other passengers who may be infected or in an incubation period. An on-board announcement late yesterday said Americans choosing to leave should get ready, tweets from passengers said.

The animation giant's upcoming flick Onward will feature the first animated LGBTQ character to exist in the Disney-Pixar universe.

Officer Specter's scene is when her partner and she pulled over a vehicle.

For many fans, including such a character in a children's movie from Pixar's reach it's a big step in representation. The film doesn't even feature Officer Specter's girlfriend, let alone give Specter any significant screen time. According to Yahoo! Entertainment's report, Disney insists that the character will be "vital to the emotional arc of the story" - but it's hard to parse out how, as it's being reported that she appears in only one scene.

Scanlon added, "It's a modern fantasy world and we want to represent the modern world".

Disney has already given glimpses of same-sex couples in two of their previous films but haven't made a moment out of it. They've shown hints of appearances of LGBTQ characters and couples.
