Rep. Swalwell: Impeachment over Roger Stone intervention an option

After Department of Justice prosecutors told the court that Stone should serve seven to nine years in prison for his crimes, President Donald Trump tweeted early Tuesday morning that the sentence was overzealous and a "miscarriage of justice".

Trump on Tuesday criticized US prosecutors who recommended a prison sentence of seven to nine years for Stone in connection with his conviction in a case stemming from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation detailing Russian interference in the 2016 election to benefit Trump's candidacy. Stone, had been based on a "bogus narrative".

Chuck Schumer, the party's leader in the Senate, asked the Justice Department's internal watchdog to investigate, and Sen. "But the Justice Department showing preferential treatment for Trump's criminal accomplices is a threat to the country".

Trump said of the prosecutors: "They ought to be ashamed of themselves ..."

On Thursday, Barr said he was "a little surprised" that the prosecutors had stepped down, and told ABC News that it was "preposterous" to characterize his role in the developments this week as an intervention.

"I have no doubt that she will not be deterred, pressured or intimidated by the unwarranted and inappropriate remarks of the president or anyone else for that matter", said a colleague, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Attorney General William Barr has agreed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31, according to multiple House Democrats. He also tweeted criticism of U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who is scheduled to sentence Stone on February 20.

Still, prosecutors often ask judges to throw the book at defendants who roll the dice on a trial rather than plead guilty. Michael Caputo, a former campaign adviser to Trump, on Wednesday announced a committee to raise money for Stone's appeal alongside a petition drive for him to be pardoned.

Napolitano continued to say that the foreperson's posts were "obviously" not considered during the jury selection process, and while he acknowledged her right to her opinion, "she can't be a jury in a trial rife with the politics of Donald Trump and Roger Stone".

Witnesses testified that Mr. Trump's campaign viewed Mr. A graduate of Harvard University and its law school, Jackson spent time both as a federal prosecutor in Washington and as a white-collar defense lawyer.
