After Defending Supreme Court Threats, Schumer Now He Says He Misspoke

The backdrop: As the Supreme Court heard arguments on Wednesday for its first major abortion case since Kavanaugh was confirmed, Schumer warned the two conservative justices that "you won't know what hit you if you go forward with these terrible decisions". He said he feels "so passionately" about defending abortion rights even as Senate Republicans and the courts are "working hand in glove to take down" the landmark 1973 Supreme Court Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.
"I want to tell you, Gorsuch".

In a statement, Schumer spokesman Justin Goodman criticized Roberts, saying that to follow the right wing's deliberate misinterpretation of what Schumer said shows the chief justice "does not just call balls and strikes".
Durbin said Trump's criticism of Schumer "takes your breath away" considering the president's long record of contentious public statements including criticism of judges.
Update: MSNBC's Chris Hayes offers some very important context to Schumer's remarks: "The supposed threat he's quoting is literally nearly verbatim what Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee!"
"These are members of the Supreme Court - he the minority leader of the United States". "They didn't come out the way I meant to". "I condemn what Schumer said, but will defend to the death his right to say it, but it is risky speech if more people pick up on it".

The comments were delivered before a raucous crowd of several hundred abortion rights activists who had assembled at the steps of the high court as the justices heard oral arguments over a Louisiana law requiring abortion providers to have hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of their clinic.
"All members of the Court will continue to do their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter", Roberts said. "It is a gross distortion to imply otherwise". But, Chuck Schumer's bully tactics aren't getting much air time right now because there's so many people in bed with his defense on abortion and his attack on an independent judiciary.
"Of course I didn't intend to suggest anything other than political and public-opinion consequences for the Supreme Court".
"I'm from Brooklyn. We speak in strong language".
On Wednesday, the Democrat leader addressed Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, saying they would "pay the price" if they voted to restrict abortions.
McCain added that Schumer is "a lion in the senate", and it's important that he lives up to the expectations that come with it, regardless of his feelings on abortion.
